The treatment

What skin needling does.

Skin needling, also called microneedling or collagen induction therapy, passes very fine sterile needles over the skin to make thousands of tiny, controlled channels. Your skin answers by building new collagen and elastin.

It is used for uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, dullness and acne scarring.

It is not a lunch-break treatment. Expect to look sunburnt for one to three days, then a little dry. The change is gradual and builds over the weeks after each session.

A course of three to four sessions, about six weeks apart, is typical.

Collagen takes weeks to build, so sessions can’t be rushed. That is why they sit about six weeks apart, and why a course is planned around your diary. Needled skin has to stay out of the sun while it heals, so a beach holiday in the middle of a course is worth mentioning at your consultation.

Acne scarring often needs more sessions than texture. We tell you at your consultation how many yours is likely to need.

How much is skin needling in Robina? +

Call 0486 330 902 or book a consultation for a price.

Does skin needling hurt? +

Skin needling is usually done with a topical numbing cream. Most people describe it as a light scratching or vibrating feeling.

How long is the recovery? +

Expect redness like mild sunburn for one to three days, sometimes with light dryness or flaking for a few days after.

How many sessions will I need? +

A course of three to four sessions, about six weeks apart, is typical for texture and acne scarring. Changes can show from two weeks and keep building for months as collagen forms.

What should I avoid before and after? +

Avoid sunburn and active skincare such as retinol and acids for a few days either side. After treatment, skip heavy exercise, saunas and swimming for 24 to 48 hours and wear SPF50+ daily.

What does the redness look like, day by day? +

Day one looks like mild sunburn. Day two is a flush that makeup can cover. By day three most skin is close to normal, sometimes a little dry or flaky for a few days more. Deeper work for scarring can take a little longer to settle.

Who should not book? +

Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, or with an active skin infection, active acne, eczema or psoriasis in the area. Tell us about cold sores, keloid scarring, blood thinners and any acne medicine in the past six months.

When can I wear makeup again? +

Wait 24 hours. Until then, use only the products we give you: needled skin takes up whatever goes on it, and the wrong product can sting or react.

Can needling be done on darker skin? +

Yes, for most skin tones. Darker skin can be more prone to marks after inflammation, so depth is set with care and the risk of pigment change is part of your consultation.
